Tiazac Information
Uses
Tiazac (Diltiazem) is used to treat high blood pressure and to
control chest pain (angina). Tiazac (Diltiazem) is in a class
of medications called calcium-channel blockers. It works
by relaxing the blood vessels so the heart does not
have to pump as hard. It also increases the supply of
blood and oxygen to the heart.
How To Use
Tiazac (Diltiazem) comes as a tablet and an extended- or dual-release
(long-acting) capsule to take by mouth. The tablet is
usually taken three or four times a day with or without
food. The capsule is usually taken one or two times
a day. The extended-release capsule (Cardizem SR, Dilacor
XR, Diltia XT) should be taken on an empty stomach,
at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. The
extended-release capsule (Tiazac) may be taken with
or without food. The dual-release capsule (Cardizem
CD) may be taken with food.
Overdose
If the victim has collapsed
or is not breathing, call local emergency services at
911.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However,
if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed
dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not
take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Storage
Keep Tiazac in the container it came in, tightly
closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room
temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not
in the bathroom). Throw away any Tiazac that is
outdated or no longer needed. Talk to your pharmacist
about the proper disposal of Tiazac.
