Provigil Information
Uses
Provigil is an anti-narcoleptic agent used to improve
wakefulness in patients with narcolepsy (sudden uncontrollable
attacks of daytime sleepiness). It may also be used
to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How To Use
Follow the directions for using Provigil provided
by your doctor. Take Provigil in the morning unless
otherwise directed by your doctor. STORE Provigil
at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20
and 25 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away
from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF Provigil,
take it as soon as possible. If you do not remember
until late afternoon or evening, skip the missed dose
and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do NOT
take 2 doses at once.
Side Effects
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Provigil
include nausea, nervousness, headache, dizziness, or
trouble sleeping. If they continue or are bothersome,
check with your doctor. If you notice other effects
not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
Precautions
DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or take Provigil
for longer than prescribed. Exceeding the recommended
dose or taking Provigil for longer than prescribed
may be habit-forming. AVOID ALCOHOL while you are using
Provigil. USING Provigil ALONE, WITH OTHER
MEDICINES, OR WITH ALCOHOL may lessen your ability to
drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks.
Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else
that could be dangerous until you know how you react
to Provigil. IF YOU EXPERIENCE difficulty breathing;
tightness of chest; swelling of eyelids, face, or lips;
or if you develop a rash or hives, tell your doctor
immediately. Do not take any more doses of Provigil
unless your doctor tells you to do so. BEFORE YOU BEGIN
TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter,
check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN TAKING
BIRTH CONTROL PILLS, Provigil may decrease the
effectiveness of your birth control pills. To prevent
pregnancy, use an additional form of birth control while
you are taking Provigil and for 1 month after stopping
Provigil. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT,
discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using
Provigil during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF Provigil IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL
BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Provigil,
check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the
risks to your baby.
Drug Interactions
Drug interactions can result in unwanted side effects
or prevent a medicine from doing its job..
Overdose
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison
control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms
of overdose include fast heartbeat, trouble sleeping,
agitation, and restlessness.
Notes
If your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse,
check with your doctor. DO NOT SHARE Provigil with
others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE Provigil for other health conditions. KEEP THIS PRODUCT
out of the reach of children. IF USING Provigil
FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before
your supply runs out.
